Def; an emotional disorder characterized by an obsessive desire to lose weight by refusing to eat.

What is Anorexia?
Many girls that struggle with Anorexia have a fear of being overweight. Symptoms include lying about eating, avoiding meals, obsessing over exercising, and having an extreme fear of gaining weight. Anorexia can start by the pressure to be perfect, a comment from a friend or even reading a magazine. A lot of the time the media is blamed for putting young girls (and sometimes boys) in the mindset that they are overweight. Many people who suffer from anorexia make elaborate meals for other people and don't take any for themselves. Some even hoard food and "binge eat." Anorexia is not something you can just snap out of. It is a mindset that haunts someone until they get professional help, and sometimes even after that. People are possessed with the thoughts of body weight, image, eating, and calories.

Treatment
Hospitalization is usually a necessity to recovering from Anorexia. Some people who are admitted into the hospital need the basic nutrition through an IV just to stay alive. Others need to go to therapy to literally learn how to eat again. Many people battling with this disease have an underlying issue with depression, so anti-depressants are often administrated.

Connector...
Anorexia consumes your life. People lose friends and don't go anywhere because their fear of food takes over. Since people with Anorexia are not getting enough nutrients, their body can not function resulting in depression, laziness, and major mood swings. Contrary to the belief of the person suffering from this horrible disease, Anorexia does not make you feel better about your body image. That leads to low self esteem and sometimes a break up with your significant other. One of the biggest ways to bond with your family is over a meal right? Removing yourself from meals, cookouts, and family get togethers, really distance yourself from your family. Anorexia strongly interferes with your everyday life.
